fabric alchemy
-
Fabric Alchemy is the practice of transforming one form of material(discarded fabric & clothing) into another(a completely different form than its previous state), and giving it valuable purpose. At the beginning of its life cycle, each design starts as any number of discarded, damaged, or gently used cotton, linen, wool, or organic cotton clothing. The fabric is stripped of its original form, and the scraps are shaped into a new, wearable, garment with healing qualities.
-
The emphasis on exclusively using discarded cotton, linen, wool, and organic cotton is an intentional decision which builds on the understanding that these naturally-occurring fabrics contain a higher vibrational frequency than the synthetic, man-made fabrics that have followed. Given the fact that all things, including people and fabrics contain a frequency, what you wear, sleep on, and allow close to your body and skin will directly affect how you feel physically. The details of this research are further discussed HERE.

It has often been said that fashion, health, science, and responsible consumption don’t and can’t relate, but the designs here prove otherwise. All things considered, fashion in its essence is historically excessive. Keeping this in mind, all designs are created only once, using deadstock, recycled clothing. This decision is also intentional considering the amounts of clothing that end up in landfills yearly. This also means there are NO DUPLICATES, NO CUSTOM ORDERS, and NO LARGE COLLECTIONS. The current inventory is easily displayed through the items available on the SHOP page. If it is ‘sold out’, then it has a home and is no longer available. As a goal to achieve zero waste, any remaining scraps from previous designs are saved, and used to create with.

All designs are sewn by hand with no assembly lines involved. There’s no major production or manufacturing in the process. Each design involves a tedious process from planning to execution, and can take anywhere from hours to days to complete. As this vision expands, the goal is to continue to be resourceful, ethical, and intentional about the process from start to finish.
